According to The Athletic, the forward could be sold on a permanent basis this month amid his strong form for the Terriers.

It was previously exclusively revealed by FLW that there are six sides in the second tier taking an interest in the youngster.

Castledine joined Lee Grant’s side in the summer on loan, and he has so far contributed 10 goals and two assists from 23 appearances in League One, with the team competing for promotion.

The Yorkshire outfit are fourth in the table, and will be hoping to keep the 20-year-old for the full campaign given his goal scoring exploits.

It is understood that Chelsea have the chance to recall Castledine from Huddersfield, provided they trigger it within the first couple of weeks of the window.

This could open the door to a potential sale, with the Blues weighing up a permanent departure amid interest from the Championship.

Castledine’s current contract with the Premier League side is set to expire this summer, but the club have the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

At least four clubs are believed to have expressed an interest to Chelsea about a deal for the forward, who has excelled in the third tier this season.

It remains to be seen whether Castledine will be brought back from Huddersfield this month, but the prospect of a move is not one that the Yorkshire outfit will be excited about.

Grant’s side are nine points adrift of an automatic promotion place, but they occupy a play-off position after 25 games played, and will be aiming to earn promotion this season.

Next up for Huddersfield is a trip to face Stockport County on 10 January in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Leo Castledine exit would be a big blow for Huddersfield

It’s no surprise that there are Championship sides targeting a move for Castledine as he has performed quite well in League One this season.

It would be a massive blow for the Terriers to lose him given his goal scoring efforts under Grant.

The step up to the second tier will be tough, and it’s far from a guarantee that he will succeed, as evidenced by Louie Barry’s struggles at that level over the last year.

But if Chelsea see an opportunity to cash in with a permanent sale, then there will be little that Huddersfield can do given this break clause in his loan deal.
