Leo Ostigard watches son’s birth on FaceTime while with Norway at World Cup

Leo Ostigard, the former Rennes defender, watched the birth of his son on FaceTime while with Norway at the World Cup, according to L'Équipe.

He had scored in Norway’s 4-1 win over Iraq in the night from Monday to Tuesday last week.

A video posted by the Norwegian federation’s account showed team-mates congratulating Ostigard and his partner, Aurora Eidmann, on the arrival.

Ostigard said his wife handled the delivery superbly, that he just needed to be there for her, and that he felt immense pride. He added that seeing his baby for the first time overwhelmed him and he broke down in tears.

He is in line to start Norway’s second match, against Senegal, in the night from Monday to Tuesday, with kick-off at two am. Norway then face France in their third group game on Friday 26 at nine pm.
