Léo Pereira praises Daniel Sales after playing on the left in Flamengo v Vasco | OneFootball

Léo Pereira hailed academy right-back Daniel Sales for his display at left-back in Flamengo’s win over Vasco at the Maracanã on Wednesday.

According to Coluna Do Fla, head coach Filipe Luís started Sales on the left for the clássico, then withdrew him at the interval, bringing on Alex Sandro.

Pereira said the youngster, who trains with the senior group, operated on the left despite being a natural right-back, made a big sacrifice and delivered a strong performance.

Before taking charge of the first team, Filipe Luís began his coaching career with Flamengo’s under-20s, working with Sales as the side won the 2024 Club World Cup at that level.

Flamengo are next in action against Fluminense on Sunday 25 January in the fourth round of the Carioca, with kick-off at 18:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
