Léo Pereira sent a public message to Filipe Luís after the Flamengo head coach was dismissed early on Tuesday, with squad members beginning their farewells.
The defender said in an Instagram post that Filipe Luís is more than a club idol as player and coach, calling him an example as a person and professional. He added his gratitude for the moments together and said the group learned a lot from him and his staff.
Pereira also described the period as one of joy and trophies, said it was a privilege to work with the staff, and thanked Filipe Luís, Diogo Linhares, Rodrigo Caio and Ivan. The message was published on Tuesday.
The centre-back did not feature in Filipe Luís’s final match on Monday, an 8-0 win over Madureira. After the game the coach held a press conference and, around one am Brasília time, was dismissed.
Flamengo initially communicated the departures of Filipe Luís, Diogo Linhares and assistant Ivan Palanco only. Later, Rodrigo Caio resigned after the situation gained nationwide attention and also left the club.
The club are now in the market for a new head coach. They are negotiating to hire Leonardo Jardim. Talks are at an advanced stage, and a resolution is likely soon.
