The Owls endured a disastrous campaign both on and off the pitch due to significant financial issues that led to administration.

But Arise Capital completed their takeover of the Yorkshire outfit in May, and a new era has begun at Hillsborough.

The group led by David Stroch will be hoping to make big changes at the club, and have already installed a new CEO and a new sporting director.

Simon Wilson has taken on the latter role, and will be heavily involved in the recruitment process this summer.

He will work closely with Henrik Pedersen, who will be keen to rebuild the first team squad, while also keeping around key players from last season.

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Liam Cooper has committed his immediate future to the club amid his expiring contract.

The defender has claimed that he is excited by the path forward provided by the new ownership, and he has been impressed by their work so far.

The former Leeds United player is looking forward to being a part of their plans for the Owls, and is ready to get playing for the new season.

“It's a new era for Sheffield Wednesday and one I'm absolutely delighted to be part of,” said Cooper, via the club’s official website.

“I can't tell you how delighted I am to be here – we can look forward now with the right people in the right roles – it’s really exciting.

"The new ownership has come in with unbelievable ideas and the know-how to run a business.

"It's all the fans, the players, the staff have ever wanted and we're going to get that now.

“Selling over 23,000 season tickets is unbelievable and I can't wait to get out there.

“That first home game of the season is going to be some spectacle.”

Cooper joined Sheffield Wednesday as a free agent last November, and he made a total of 14 appearances in the Championship.

The centre-back will now be hoping to help the Owls get back to a competitive level next season, with their sights set on potentially competing for promotion in League One.

How Sheffield Wednesday fans feel about Liam Cooper’s extension

Sheffield Wednesday fans are happy to see Cooper commit his future to the club, and believe he will be a great presence to have in the squad again next season.

Others are appreciating the presence of Wilson in the announcement of the defender’s new contract, suggesting that the club are now acting like they should be.

Meanwhile, some fans are simply excited that this is the beginning of a flurry of activity, with further announcements expected.

Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with bringing Barry Bannan back to Hillsborough, as well as a contract extension for Max Lowe.

Cooper has agreed a one-year contract with the Owls, keeping him with the League One side until 2027.

Arise Capital aren’t waiting around since taking over Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday’s new owners were installed at the start of May, and they have been keeping themselves quite busy since then.

Fans will be pleased to see the changes that have been made behind the scenes, and Cooper’s extension is a direct result of the improvements already implemented.

It’s an exciting time for Sheffield Wednesday, and Cooper has further fuelled that feeling by making it clear just how impressed he’s been by Arise Capital.
