Liam Delap’s release clause at Ipswich Town will be just £30m if the club are relegated from the Premier League this season.

Ipswich are 18th in the Premier League table and 12 points from safety with just seven games to go. The Tractor Boys are facing an almost certain relegation back to the Championship and clubs are circling for leading scorer Delap.

The 22-year-old has been the standout player in Ipswich’s season and has scored 12 league goals for Kieran McKenna’s side.

Signed from Manchester City last summer, Delap has impressed during his first full campaign in the Premier League. He is the highest-scoring u-23 player in the Premier League this season.

Multiple reports have revealed that Delap’s relegation release clause is just £30m, less than the £40m figure reported earlier this month.

Chelsea and Manchester United are strongly interested in the England u-21 international, who looks certain to remain in the Premier League next season regardless of Ipswich’s fate.

Manchester City also have a 20% sell-on clause and buy-back option on Delap. However, the Citizens are unlikely to activate their buy-back option given the presence of Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush at the Etihad.

Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been linked with Delap, according to The Guardian. An attractive release clause could invite more suitors this summer, with several top-flight clubs in search of a centre-forward. Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Spurs are also all expected to sign strikers this summer.
