Blues head coach lifts lid on behind-closed-doors conversations
Liam Rosenior says fresh talks took place in the past week over Chelsea’s summer transfer targets.
The Blues are expected to be in both the buying and selling markets this summer to strengthen the squad after a season in which they fell short in the Champions League and face a real fight to qualify for the competition ready for next term, in the remaining six league fixtures.
Chelsea were beaten 3-0 by an inspired Manchester City on Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge and have lost four of their last five games in all competitions.
The home side were outmuscled in the lead-up to two of City’s three goals, and it was put to the Chelsea head coach that a shortage of physicality in the squad may be something that needs addressing once the summer transfer window opens.
“Yeah, even over the last week, we've had lots of detailed conversations about what we need to look like moving forward from the summer window,” Rosenior said.
“You talk about all different aspects of the game — physicality, technicality, positional things.”
The 41-year-old added: “They're all things that we're in talks in and we know what we want to improve and we know where we want to improve in the summer.”
The summer transfer window will open on June 15, though the World Cup could complicate negotiations for players involved.
Chelsea’s ability to cut deals will also be affected by whether they qualify for the Champions League, as they may rely on the tournament’s financial benefits to loosen PSR constraints.
