Robert Sanchez has been the undisputed No1 at the club throughout this season under both Rosenior and his predecessor Enzo Maresca, but last week was dropped in favour of Filip Jorgensen for the huge Premier League clash away to Aston Villa.

It ended up proving a key win to lift the mood at Chelsea, as Joao Pedro scored a hat-trick in a clinical 4-1 win at Villa Park.

Sanchez then played in the FA Cup fifth-round match away to Wrexham on Saturday, which many took to indicate he has been dropped in the longer-term and that Jorgensen could get another prestige fixture between the sticks in Wednesday’s Champions League round of 16 first leg at the Parc des Princes.

When asked whether he would reveal which of Sanchez or Jorgensen will start against PSG, Rosenior smiled and said: “No, of course not.”

It is widely felt at Chelsea that Sanchez’s best performance for the club since his August 2023 move from Brighton came against PSG in last summer’s Club World Cup final. Chelsea won the match 3-0 to secure the trophy, with Sanchez picking up the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper at the tournament.

But the Spaniard is under pressure to start against the reigning European champions on Wednesday.

Rosenior continued: “With this squad, every position is a difficult decision. That's how it has to be for us to be successful. We have a fantastic squad full of top players.

“Not even just the starting XI. Making a decision who's on the bench is difficult. That's the job I'm here to do. We'll make that decision in terms of the goalkeeping position, in terms of the No9, No10 or No7 position.

“For me the goalkeeper position is no different to an outfield position. I will pick what I think is the right choice for each game.”

The Englishman, staying tight-lipped, added: “You'll see what decision I make tomorrow when the team sheet comes up.”

France international Malo Gusto joined Rosenior in the pre-match press conference in Paris but insisted it makes little difference to him as a defender if the profile of the goalkeeper playing behind him swaps and changes.

“No, I don't think so,” Chelsea’s No27 said. “We're all training in the same way on the training ground.”
