New Blues head coach in constant discussions with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart during January window
Liam Rosenior says he is in daily communication with Chelsea’s co-sporting directors about potential transfers this month.
Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are leading the club’s January window business, with new head coach Rosenior consulted on deals they wish to proceed with.
Chelsea have already sold Leo Castledine to Middlesbrough and recalled goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe early from a season-long loan spell at Bolton, with Caleb Wiley also returning from Watford.
On Thursday, Facundo Buonanotte was granted permission to travel up to Leeds for a medical. He had been on loan at Chelsea from Brighton but a mutual agreement was made for him to leave early and join Leeds in order to receive more game time, with that move now official.
Chelsea are expected to have a quiet window in terms of incomings, but signings are possible if the right opportunities arise. It is anticipated that Tyrique George will leave the club this month, most likely on a permanent deal.
There is interest too in second-choice goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, reportedly from West Ham, but as things stand he will be staying put.
Asked on Thursday whether Chelsea will be making any new signings this month, Rosenior said: “I think if we do, it needs to be the right player. We need to be patient. I want to assess this group. It's really, really important to me.
“We still have time. We have conversations every day, myself and the board, about potential transfers, both out and in. But at the same time, I need to focus on the players in the building.
“If I feel it's the right time or the right player, then we'll make that decision.”
Rosenior was then asked whether England Under-21 winger George is part of his plans for the future at Stamford Bridge.
“The honest answer is I don't know,” he replied. “Tyrique is a player of immense potential who I've been aware of for a long time. He's been unfortunate.
“The first game against Charlton, he travelled with the group. He wasn't in the group. Yesterday [against Arsenal], he was on the bench.
“I've said this to the players - your background, whether you're an academy player, whether you've been signed for £100million, it's about what you do in training.
“A lot of things have to come together for a player to leave. You need the right interest. You need the right offer. It needs to be right for the player. At the moment, I've had nothing in terms of Tyrique, and I continue to work with him in the group.”
Rosenior spoke about the outgoing Buonanotte, who started just one Premier League game in his time at Chelsea and made only eight appearances overall.
“I thought he was magnificent against Charlton,” Rosenior said ahead of Buonanotte’s move to Leeds being confirmed. “In terms of the games and the minutes he's had, it's not quite what he wants.
“I'm in constant communication with the sporting directors and the ownership about potential transfers that could be good for us, both coming in and coming out.”
