Chelsea’s star player Cole Palmer made some comments before tonight’s game against Manchester United that cast doubt on his future should the Blues not qualify for the Champions League.
Asked about it post game, a defeated Liam Rosenior wasn’t even able to put up a big fight and make it clear his star man is going nowhere.
“The honest answer is I don’t know. The honest answer is we’re still fighting and we’ll address that situation at the end of the season, whatever the situation is,” the Chelsea boss mumbled.
That is a worryingly weak answer. There’s no conviction in it at all. We hope that’s not a reflection of what’s going on in the dressing room. Rosenior has to make these players believe, and answers like that won’t cut it.
He’s already pointed to the Brighton game as a chance to set things right. If we see a heavy defeat, his days as manager are surely numbered. We will have lost all faith in him turning this around, and we’d suspect his bosses will have too.
The Chelsea manager gave an update on Enzo Fernandez after the midfielder went off injured.
Rosenior was at least able to find one positive from his team’s ongoing schedule.
