Libertadores spot at stake: Boca v River in huge Superclásico

The Xeneize host the Millonario in a clash that will put much more than three points at stake.

The Superclásico of Argentine football will once again bring the country to a standstill this Sunday from 4:00 PM, when Boca Juniors host River Plate at La Bombonera, for the 15th round of the 2025 Torneo Clausura. The match, which will be broadcast by TNT Sports Premium and ESPN Premium, will have Nicolás Ramírez as referee, with Héctor Paletta in charge of VAR.

The clash comes at a decisive moment: both teams are fighting for qualification to the 2026 Copa Libertadores, making this Superclásico one of the most important in recent years.

Boca's current form

The Xeneize, managed by Claudio Úbeda, are going through a great footballing moment. They have won three of their last four matches and are first in Zone A with 23 points, showing a solid and balanced version. A win against River would not only be a huge morale boost, but it would also secure them a place in the group stage of the next Libertadores, a tournament Boca have not played in since 2023.

River's difficult outlook

On the other side, River Plate are experiencing a much more complex present. The team led by Marcelo Gallardo have lost seven of their last ten matches, a situation that has left them sixth in Zone B with 21 points. Despite the poor run, the board decided to renew the coach's contract until 2026, backing his continuity amid the crisis.
