According to L'Équipe, Ligue 1 clubs have discussed a one-season plan in which Champions League qualifiers would divert part of their international broadcast income to support non-European sides.

On Monday the National Assembly will examine a bill on the organisation, management and funding of professional sport that has stirred debate across French football. It includes an amendment fixing domestic TV distribution at a ratio of one to three between first and last in Ligue 1, with scope to shift to one to three point two or three point five.

International rights are another flashpoint. Currently, aside from six and a half million euros, the bulk, €131.1m for 2026-2027, goes only to clubs with a UEFA coefficient. Amid falling domestic TV income, teams want a fresh split of the overseas pot.

At a recent Ligue 1 meeting, a proposal was tabled for Champions League entrants to surrender three million euros each from their international share for one season. That would add nine million or 12 million euros to a common pool, depending on whether France has three or four qualifiers.

The discussions form part of wider talks on reshaping revenue sharing in the current climate.
