The Ligue 1 college meets on Tuesday to decide a broadcast strategy that could put every match on Ligue1+ next season, with beIN Sports having set out in writing its intention to stop showing and paying for its slot.
Nicolas de Tavernost, chief executive of LFP Media, is due to brief clubs on the options. According to L'Équipe, the choices are limited because the beIN window, mainly Saturdays at 17:15, is in jeopardy.
The beIN contract carries 78.5 million euros a year in rights plus a further 20 million from Qatari sponsors, a sponsorship element that has never been activated. Citing distribution restrictions, the Franco-Qatari channel has not settled full invoices, paying 14 million of the 18 due at each of the last two deadlines.
LFP Media had initially been expected to decide whether to take back the match. A revised legal view now means French football will have to reclaim it and put every fixture on Ligue1+ next season, with a sale to another broadcaster not favoured. De Tavernost will set out growth scenarios for an exclusive offer to restart the platform’s momentum, with 1.1 million subscribers and growth now very slow.
With 100% of Ligue 1, revenues should rise, yet the increase would not cover the 78.5 million originally promised by beIN Sports in 2026-27. Clubs are expected to be offered use of the reserve fund to soften the blow. It was used after DAZN’s default last season and has been replenished to around 60 million euros.
That sum could help curb falling club income. Next season is shaping up as critical, with the very likely halt to beIN’s Ligue 1 payments and the end of DAZN’s 85 million euro departure indemnity this season.
