Alejandro Garnacho is one of a handful of Manchester United stars whose sale would generate pure profit this summer.

The Carrington graduate’s time at the club could well be approaching its end after five years, with INEOS now floundering over how they can raise funds following a calamitous campaign on all fronts.

Defeat in Thursday’s Europa League final and finishing just above the relegation zone in the Premier League has seen United miss out on a sizeable sum for the season ahead. As such, they will need to trim down their squad considerably, or else risk failing to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Regulations.

In the aftermath of Thursday’s loss, Garnacho added fuel to the fire with his bombshell post-match interview.

He had dropped to the bench for the third successive game due to Ruben Amorim preferring Mason Mount and Amad behind Rasmus Hojlund. Reacting on Instagram ahead of the game, Garnacho shared a snap of himself celebrating a goal in the Community Shield final against Manchester City last August.

Amorim eventually introduced the Argentine to the fold in the 71st minute, and, while he was unable to find United’s breakthrough, he instantly livened up the side’s attack, prompting TNT Sports’ commentators Ally McCoist and Darren Fletcher to say they ‘couldn’t believe’ how long the coach had waited to bring him on.

Garnacho’s younger brother, Roberto, fired a dig Amorim’s way on his social media at full-time, while the forward himself went on to say: “The season was crap. We didn’t beat anyone in the league. Until we reached the final I played every round and helped the team, and to play 20 minutes today… I don’t know.

“I’ll enjoy the summer and then we’ll see.”

Garnacho’s future: The state of play

Of course, the 20-year-old had attracted interest from both Chelsea and Napoli in January — the latter having a £45 million bid rejected as they scoured the market for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s successor.

Now, amidst ‘fears of a rift’ growing, The Telegraph claims United are ‘likely to accept an offer of £60 million’ to sanction Garnacho’s exit in the coming months.

He is contracted to the club until 2028 and earns in the region of £53,000 per week (Salary Sport).
