During his introductory press conference this Friday as a Lille player, Hamza Igamane revealed the African legend who inspired him.
Having already impressed against Lorient, Hamza Igamane will be competing with Olivier Giroud at Lille—a player he holds in high regard. "I've watched Giroud since I was a kid, back when he played for Arsenal and was competing at the highest level. Everyone knows him, knows his quality, and I really like his style of play. Otherwise, Didier Drogba has been a huge inspiration for me; I think I have a somewhat similar playing style. So I hope that with Giroud, we can bring a lot to this club," said the Moroccan.
The Atlas Lion also took the opportunity to share his story before arriving in Europe. "I played in the bustling streets of Morocco, sometimes barefoot among the stones. There’s so much talent in those streets that never got the chance. I’m an example for these youngsters. We all had that dream of playing for a big club. I achieved it, but it’s important to look for those talents in the streets. When I arrived, I had a strong mentality, and my teammates really helped me reach this level in just 45 minutes. In football, you know you don’t score in every match, let alone twice in one half. But Ligue 1 is a tough league, and I hope to find the net in every game," he stated during the press conference.
