Lingering attacking woes for Gasperini can lead Roma to having Champions League dream diminished

Gianluca Gaetano’s superb finish  from an exquisite corner delivery from Sebastiano Esposito stunned a 10-man Roma side in the 81st minute to seal all three points for Cagliari at the Stadio Unipol Dormus, handing the Giallorossi their first consecutive loss of the campaign following their 1-0 defeat to Napoli the previous match-week.

From talks of Gian Piero Gasperini possibly ending a 25-year drought of Roma having not won the scudetto given their impressive string of victories against the minnows of the league, albeit failing to seize points against the title contenders Inter, Milan and Napoli, as well as currently being the best defensive team of the league with a total of eight goals conceded, grave concerns surround Roma regarding their chances of finishing top four given their goal-scoring crisis.

As it stands, the Capital side hold onto to a spot within the top-four with very fine margins, only three points separating themselves from Bologna, with the Rossoblu having a game in-hand as they face Lazio later throughout the day.

Despite having a man down following Celik’s ruthless challenge on former Lazio midfielder Michael Folorunsho caused him to get sent off, it was a total black-out offensively for the former Atalanta coach’s side as Roma only registered a single shot throughout the second half.

The second 45 fully portrayed Roma’s offensive struggles this season, as the Giallorossi have only scored 15 goals in 14 games-played thus far.

Star-forwards Paulo Dyabala, Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson have only amassed a combined total of four goals in the top-flight Italian league.

It remains to be seen Gasperini can resolve this poor efficiency in the final third and alleviate Roma from this current crisis of possibly falling short from a top-four finish for an eighth consecutive season.
