The football world is mourning the loss of one of the greatest defenders in history, a player whose name became synonymous with loyalty, leadership, intelligence and defensive perfection.

Baresi was more than just a footballer for Milan. He embodied the Rossoneri spirit. Born in Travagliato on May 8, 1960, he was a product of the club’s academy and spent his entire 20-year professional career at the club, becoming one of their greatest-ever players.

He became the Milan captain when he was only 22 and played 719 games with the Rossoneri, only second to Paolo Maldini with 902.

Milan retired Baresi’s legendary No.6 shirt after his retirement in 1997.

Baresi had been serving as Milan’s honorary vice president since 2020.
