Reds exit Carabao Cup at the fourth-round stage as Palace come out on top once again
Liverpool’s miserable run of form continued as they were beaten at home by Crystal Palace on Wednesday night to crash out of the Carabao Cup.
Ismaila Sarr kept up his excellent goalscoring record against Liverpool this season by netting twice in quick succession towards the end of the first-half.
Yeremy Pino then added a third goal late on, after Amara Nallo had been sent-off for the hosts for a professional foul, to seal yet another memorable result for Palace in this fixture.
With Arne Slot opting to name an inexperienced starting XI and an equally youthful bench, he was unable to call upon the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Hugo Ekitike or Alexander Isak in an attempt to turn things around.
The Dutchman did, however, tweak his system as the Reds matched Palace by lining up with a back three which could be a sign of what is to come as Slot attempts to turn his side’s form around.
Ultimately though it’s a fifth straight domestic defeat for Liverpool as attentions turn towards three massive games before the international break - against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
As for Palace, the current FA Cup holders have now beaten the Merseyside outfit for a third time this season, but more importantly are back to winning ways after successive defeats to AEK Larnaca and Arsenal without scoring.
