In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Liverpool are among the clubs hoping to land Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano next year. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona in pursuit of the France international next year.

Upamecano’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga This Season

Upamecano has already put in a few solid displays for Bayern Munich on the defensive end of the field during this campaign. The 26-year-old has participated in eight matches for the Bavarian club this season across all competitions.

The France international has been a rock at the back for the German club as he has made six tackles, two blocks, five interceptions and 11 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half, based on his pass success rate of 91.4% in the top tier of German football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the German club will run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Liverpool to come to a pre-contract agreement with him this January.

Will Upamecano Be A Good Fit For Liverpool Boss Arne Slot?

Upamecano is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and can even play his way out from the back.

The French sensation can use his strong 1.86m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the high intensity of the Premier League if the Reds manage to get a deal over the line for him next year.

We can expect Upamecano to bring more bite and steel to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s defence. He is good enough to serve as an ideal replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who has got less than a year left to run in his contract.

At 26, Upamecano has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a great fit for the Merseyside club to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign.
