In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Liverpool are facing stiff competition for Bayern Munich defender Min-jae Kim. It has been mentioned that the Reds would have to rival Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the South Korean centre-back next year.

Kim’s Decent Form In German Football This Season

Kim has served as a useful squad player for the Munich club recently and has done well to put in a few solid displays for them in the Bundesliga. The South Korean talent has participated in nine matches for Bayern Munich this season, securing one assist in multiple competitions.

The 28-year-old has been a reliable presence at the back as he has made three tackles, four blocks, four interceptions and nine clearances in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 95.5% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for the Reds to snap him up on the cheap next year.

Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot Move In For Kim?

Kim is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.90m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team.

However, it remains to be seen whether the South Korea international can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing a defender of his quality and skill set.

We can expect Kim to add more bite and steel to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s defence. He is more than capable of fighting for a regular first-team place at the Merseyside club.

At 28, Kim is playing in his prime, which makes him a decent choice for the Reds to pursue this January or at the end of this campaign. However, Slot has to give him some time to settle into life in England before he can get the best out of the defender.
