Liverpool avoid Zubimendi repeat: Brazilian target is EAGER for move | OneFootball

Liverpool have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, and Arne Slot has got his team performing at the very top level.

Despite only being at the club for a number of months, the Reds’ new head coach has already made an impact and currently has Liverpool top of the Premier League.

The Dutchman has also done so without splashing the cash at Liverpool, with Federico Chiesa being the only senior addition to the squad this summer.

Now it is being reported that Liverpool could be about to re-enter the transfer market in order to further strengthen Slot’s squad.

Ederson open to Premier League move

It was widely reported this summer that Liverpool’s priority in the transfer market was a holding midfielder and Martin Zubimendi was identified as the Reds’ top target.

Zubimendi opted to stay at his boyhood club Real Sociedad though and is happy with his decision so it could be time for Liverpool to move on to an alternative target.

One name that was linked with Liverpool constantly during the summer and has now been linked again is Ederson, the 25-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Atalanta.

According to TBR Football, Liverpool are interested in the Brazilian and sent scouts to watch Atalanta’s recent Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk and the midfielder is open to a move to the Premier League in 2025.

Do Liverpool need Ederson?

Although Zubimendi was a priority for the club this summer, the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch has played down the urgency for a holding midfield signing.

The Dutchman’s incredible performances have earned him praise from all over the football world and now a signing in his position doesn’t look necessary at Anfield.

When you look beyond Gravenberch in this position a need for reinforcements once again starts to emerge. Wataru Endo is the only natural alternative and he is not favoured by Slot so it is plausible that midfield reinforcements could be in order at Liverpool.

Rather than replacing Gravenberch, the signing of Ederson would allow pressure to be taken off the Dutchman, who is still only 22 years old and would reduce the drop-off in quality when Slot does decide to rotate his midfield.

There is plenty of time for Slot to assess his options before the transfer window reopens in January and a deal for Ederson or another midfield target could make sense to boost squad depth and protect Gravenberch.
