PSG have been drawn against the Reds in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the first leg in Paris to be held on April 8 before the return leg at Anfield on April 14.

Scheduled between the two games, on April 11, is a huge top-of-the-table clash between PSG and Lens. It is the biggest match of the Ligue 1 run-in as second hosts first at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Just one point separates leaders PSG and second-placed Lens, though the Parisiens have one game in hand over their title rivals.

And Champions League holders PSG have bid to postpone the fixture to give them a weekend off between two huge legs against Liverpool.

Lens, chasing their first league title since 1988, have officially rejected the idea, leaving the decision with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP).

A club statement read: “It appears to us that a concerning sentiment is beginning to take hold: that of a French championship being progressively relegated to the status of a mere 'adjustment variable' at the mercy of the European imperatives of a few.

“This is a singular conception of sporting equity, the likes of which are difficult to find in other major continental competitions.

“Modifying the date of this match now would mean Racing Club de Lens being deprived of competition for 15 days, only to then be forced into a run of games every three days - a rhythm that corresponds neither to the schedule defined at the start of the season, nor to the resources of a club expected to absorb such new constraints without consequence.”

The expectation is that the fixture will be moved, with LFP previously showing willingness to benefit French teams playing in Europe.

Liverpool are set to host Fulham in the Premier League on the same day, and are not expected to request a postponement.

PSG were successful in having their Ligue 1 match against Nantes rescheduled between both legs of their Champions League last-16 tie against Chelsea, which they won 8-2 on aggregate.
