Well this one had the most relaxed feel of the season by half-time. Liverpool have been questioned for their slow starts in games recently, but they were on it from the off against a poor Ipswich side. Dominance probably understates what we witnessed in this 3pm kick-off, but despite that you know Slot and a few others will be furious to miss out in the clean sheet. Even more records are being broken and every red will be happy with their performance in this one. We look at the lessons learned from a comfortable victory at Anfield.
It wasn’t a vintage Cody Gakpo performance, but the stats that mattered really shone. Liverpool’s Dutch attacker scored in his seventh successive game at Anfield, having notched an assist and then adding goals later. The header was all about the ball from Trent and his first was a fortunate rebound, but you’ve got to be there to finish them and Gakpo has that knack right now. He notched 16 last season and was often a rotational option. He’s on 14 already and as it stands, appears to be a starter. Keep that goals record going and no-one will be able to dispute it.
You could tell he fancied this one too. The Egyptian King now has more Premier League goals (19) and assists (13) than he did in the entirety of last season (18 goals, 10 assists). He’s up to 40 goal contributions (23 goals and 17 assists) already too. Reports of his recent demise have been greatly exaggerated it seems and he now overtakes Thierry Henry to move into seventh on the all time list (176 goals). It’s near impossible to say where he’ll end up by the end of this season and the numbers he’ll compile. We get the arrow celebration too. Just the signature on that contract too would be nice.

He should be the Player Of The Year and we know he’s the world’s best defender. In his 300th appearance for the reds, Virgil Van Dijk more than played his part in his 206th win (another record with Trent second funnily enough). Liam Delap trudged off knowing there are levels to the game and probably thankful he won’t come up against him this campaign. His passing accuracy was on point (98%), he made clearances (2) and recoveries (4) as well as winning all his ground duels (2). Once Salah finds that pen if he could pass it to the skipper immediately that would be greatly appreciated.
