Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is reportedly in advanced talks to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
Konate has entered the final season of his contract at Liverpool and there has been no public progress on a potential extension. The France international is understood to have rejected one proposal from Liverpool, alongside a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League.
Real Madrid are ready to swoop in and have started negotiations with Konate’s camp. Spanish journalist José Félix Díaz has claimed talks between Real Madrid and Konate are at an advanced stage.
The La Liga giants have regularly attacked the Bosman market in recent windows, including the free agent signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool in the summer.
Real Madrid have also signed Kylian Mbappe, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger as high-profile free agents in recent years.
Konate has been a key figure for Liverpool in recent seasons and helped the Reds to Premier League title success last season. However, the English champions are yet to satisfy the player’s demands for a new deal.
Reservations include the 26-year-old’s injury record. Last season was the first time that Konate has made 20+ league starts in his four seasons at Anfield.
Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for a fee of £36m in 2021. He has since scored five goals in 136 appearances across all competitions.
The Frenchman has won four major trophies with the Reds, adding the FA Cup and two League Cup successes to last season’s Premier League title triumph.
