Liverpool have been touted as the most likely destination for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
While they may have front row seats, there are several other clubs interested in the Englishman and Sky journalist Sacha Tavolieri has revealed that Inter Milan is one of them.
Liverpool were heavily linked with Guehi last summer, but Palace refused to let go of their captain.
They had already turned down up to three bids from Newcastle United, standing firm that Guehi is not for sale, and Liverpool were met with the same response when they threw their hat in the ring.
Palace’s stance showed how much they value Guehi, but they only shot themselves in the foot, considering the defender is now in the final year of his contract.
With the “exceptional” 25-year-old unlikely to commit his long-term future to the Eagles despite their excellent start to the season, interested clubs are already lining up, and Liverpool are one of them.
Guehi is not short on interest, both in the Premier League and abroad. Aside from Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea are also in the mix.
The Blues haven’t ruled out the possibility of bringing in another centre-back next summer and are expected to make a serious push to bring Guehi back to Stamford Bridge.
The England international is considered one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.
At 25, he already has bags of experience under his belt, having made 167 appearances for Palace and is also a key part of the England national team.
Snapping up a defender of Guehi’s experience and quality is a no-brainer, especially when he’s available on a free transfer.
Clubs across Europe are clustering to sign him, and Inter have reportedly taken the lead in the race.
Reports claim Guehi already has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid, who are in need of a centre-back with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba expected to leave when their contracts run out.
Madrid has also made it a habit of snapping up some of the best players in the world without paying a penny in transfer fee, and Guehi join that exclusive list.
Liverpool are looking to rebuild their backline gradually, and Guehi is seen as the perfect addition to the squad. But they have a real fight on their hands to make it happen.
