Big changes are coming to the Liverpool midfield this summer.

Alexis Mac Allister is among the candidates to leave due to his uncertain contract situation. No talks over a new deal have been instigated by the club with the Argentina FIFA World Cup winner and his current contract expires in 2028.

If no new deal is agreed then it is easy to see the temptation for selling the 27-year-old. Curtis Jones now looks very close to joining Inter Milan.

Talks are ongoing for the 25-year-old - even if the two clubs remain apart on the valuation. If one or more of Liverpool’s current midfield options end up leaving then quality players will be required this summer.

Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes have been running the rule over a plethora of midfield targets - including Alex Scott of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

Now a report claims in TEAMtalk that talks have been opened with Wharton over the terms of a summer deal.

“Liverpool remain among the player’s strongest admirers and have held talks with Wharton’s camp in recent weeks as they assess options to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s midfield,” the report reads.

Wharton has been in impressive form since leaving Blackburn for the Eagles in 2024.
