In the final days of the summer transfer window, Liverpool center back Ibrahima Konaté’s future remains uncertain. The two sides have not agreed on a contract extension in recent months, prompting speculation about his next move. PSG and Real Madrid have both been linked to the defender.
According to a previous report from Diario AS, Real Madrid’s interest could hinge on Liverpool lowering its asking price. Konaté will be free to talk to any club come January 1, 2026, if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
The report mentions that throughout the summer, Los Blancos see the Frenchman’s value Konaté between €20 million and €25 million, while Liverpool are holding out for closer to €50 million. As a result, no deal came about.
Moreover, Foot Mercato recently reported that Konaté has been offered to several top European clubs—including PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona—further increasing the chances of a move once his deal expires.

According to DefensaCentral (h/t Fichajes), Liverpool are said to be willing to let Konaté leave for a specific fee of €55 million, a figure that has raised eyebrows at Chamartín. The defender is entering the final year of his contract and, as of January 1, would be free to join another club for the 2026/27 season.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez reportedly reacted strongly, telling those close to him that paying such a sum for a player who could soon move for free is “unfeasible.” The club is understood to be unwilling to repeat high-risk deals when the market offers the option of waiting to complete a zero-cost transfer.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are said to remain firm. The club prefers to risk losing Konaté for free rather than allow an immediate move to a direct Champions League rival. The Anfield side believes the defender can still play a key role in the Premier League and Europe, though his long-term future at the club remains uncertain.
