Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe joins Leverkusen on loan

Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe will return to Germany for the second half of the 2025/26 season after joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

The 25-year-old joined the Reds from Freiburg in the summer but was immediately caught up in controversy after being investigated in September over allegedly using 'discriminatory language' against one of her teammates during pre-season.

The club had to wait some time before receiving the verdict of a six-game ban which has now been completed. The player had been spending time in Germany during that suspension and will now remain in the country until the end of the season.

Borggräfe made her debut for Liverpool in the League Cup back in September and has featured four times for Gareth Taylor's side so far.
