Liverpool boss Arne Slot issued injury updates on Hugo Ekitike, Alisson Becker and Florian Wirtz ahead of this Sunday’s clash with West Ham United in the Premier League

The Dutchman confirmed that Ekitike had a recovery day on Thursday after picking up an injury during the 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Slot said that he does not believe it is a “big issue” and the forward could be available for selection this weekend.

Alisson is expected to start against the Hammers after missing the PSV game through illness. He only returned from a hamstring injury last week in the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Wirtz, meanwhile, will conclude on Friday his rehabilitation from a muscular injury he sustained during the international break, meaning he could return to training on Saturday.

“Alisson trained again today with the team, we hope and expect he is available at the weekend.

“Wirtz will have his final day of rehab tomorrow, if all goes well he can train with the team on Saturday.

“Ekitike, today was a recovery day but they don’t expect it has to be a big issue.”

Slot added that Joe Gomez is “close” to a return to first-team action. The defender has not featured for Liverpool since making a late cameo against Manchester City three weeks ago.

“He could have been involved yesterday in terms of minutes. When we are 3-1 down, I tend to make offensive changes.”

Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong remain sidelined through injury.

Slot did not give up any hints on whether or not he will shake up his starting lineup for the trip to West Ham amid a dreadful run of form.

“Everyone trains with us every single day, and they can prove themselves in that moment,” he said.

“It’s always a balance. There was a period where I lost, and I made a few changes and people complained that I made too many changes.

“Of course, I consider but I can not tell you the end decision of what I’ve considered for Sunday.”
