He's been rehabilitating at Liverpool ever since. Liverpool have been very careful not to rush him back too soon. But the youngster finally returned to action in a behind closed doors friendly against Wrexham.

This was confirmed by Liverpool's official website.

Scanlon played just one half and was substituted at half-time when the score had already been 1-1.

It was a much needed appearance for the youngster and it's a huge step in his recovery. Scanlon has been regarded for a while as a very promising wonderkid within the club's academy set-up.

He was lured from Birmingham City's academy, where he was very highly rated.

A proper flying full-back, he loves to bomb forward and take players on. Scanlon's got the speed to do it as well and runs the channels really well.

He was very impressive doing this as in the Championship, particularly in the game against Cardiff where he scored his first professional goal.

A England U20 international, Scanlon also has first-team experience at Liverpool having played two games for the club in the Europa League.

Given how the Reds' season is going, he may have an opportunity to impress again. And like Calvin Ramsay, he could fight himself back into the reckoning at Anfield.
