Liverpool are severely lacking in depth across their first-team squad.

The 2026-27 season was expected to be the one where the Reds made up for all of their shortcomings last term.

And, when the Reds hijacked Newcastle's deal for Victor Munoz at the start of the transfer window, fans were getting excited and thought that many more arrivals would be on their way.

However, that has been far from the case and now, only two new players have been brought in.

This has led fans to question how well their team will actually do this term and have made them turn their backs on the Reds once again.

And, with the number of exits that they've already suffered this summer, it's mad to think that Bradley Barcola is the only player who Liverpool have been concretely linked with, especially with how many areas of their squad still needs upgrading.

However, that hasn't stopped those who have exited from finding new places to ply their trade with one Liverpool legend now closing in on his next club.

Mohamed Salah is in the 'final stage' of his move to Trabzonspor

Of the three Liverpool players who exited Anfield for nothing this summer, Mohamed Salah is the one that has hit fans the hardest.

Ever since the Egyptian King joined the Anfield outfit, he's been their main attacking output and, even though he wasn't his usual self last term, he still contributed to 22 goals across all competitions.

Most fans thought that he'd have been replaced by now and, even though Munoz can be used there if needed, he's nowhere near as good as the Egypt international.

Of course, Salah's contract would have only had a year left on it if he stayed at Anfield so, he'd have probably been exiting next summer anyway but, at least it would have given Liverpool time to get a successor in place.

However, that isn't how things worked out and now, as per an update from Turkish journalist Hasan Tuncel, Salah is now in the 'final stage' of his Trabzonspor deal.

"Trabzonspor Club is now in the final stage of the Mo Salah transfer, but UEFA's 70% criterion is putting significant pressure on the club," he wrote.

"For the club to complete the Salah transfer; Season ticket sales, Jersey revenues or a new player sale are of critical importance.

"The club side expects fan support to be decisive in this process."

Liverpool need to replace Mohamed Salah before making any other moves

One of the main problems that Liverpool have faced over the last couple of years is replacing the players that exit.

Luis Diaz left L4 last summer and, it took until the start of the 2026-27 summer transfer window for his replacement to be signed.

The same thing happened with Jarell Quansah. The Englishman could cover centre-back and right-back for Liverpool and, even though they did sign Jeremie Frimpong, he was more of a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold than Quansah.

So, before anymore sales are made, Andoni Iraola needs to figure out who his Salah successor is going to be.

Antoine Semenyo and Yan Diomande were both linked last season but, with deals for both of them now off the table, the Reds are going to have to turn their attention elsewhere.

However, with how inflated the market is this season, there are hardly any options for Liverpool to explore for a new right-winger.

Francisco Conceicao is the main name to have emerged over the last week or so but, for the €50 million that Juventus want for him, there are definitely better options out there.

Of course, there is still around a month left until the transfer window slams shut but, at the moment, it feels like Liverpool's first-team squad is more or less sorted.
