The pressure has ramped up on Arne Slot over the last few days.
Liverpool lost to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday night - a damaging 4-2 defeat. It was followed by a controversial social media post by Mohamed Salah - which was interpreted as a thinly-veiled attack on the head coach.
Things have fallen apart rapidly for Slot - who last year was celebrating a Premier League title in his first season in charge.
And although club messengers continue to insist that the 47-year-old is well-backed inside Anfield it appears Slot is on shakier ground that many at Liverpool would like you to believe.
That’s according to a new report in TEAMtalk which claims Andoni Iraola is now being considered a strong option to replace Slot. “The Dutchman’s standing behind the scenes is not as secure as the club’s public messaging has suggested,” the report reads.
“No formal talks have taken place with Liverpool at this stage [but] the opportunity to manage at Anfield would be viewed as one of the elite jobs in European football.”
Iraola has worked wonders at Bournemouth since his appointment by Richard Hughes back in 2023. Working under big constraints - having to sell key players every summer - the Spaniard has got the Cherries on the brink of European qualification.
