It looks like that is something Liverpool are considering. According to Calciomercato Liverpool are still interested in Italian right-back Marco Palestra.
The site claims the Reds tried to sign him in the summer and made a €20m offer that was rejected by Atalanta who wanted to loan him to Cagliari instead.
Since his loan Liverpool continue to monitor Palestra who has caught the eye this season. The right-back ranks in the 89th percentile among full-backs for assists per 90 minutes (0.21) and is showing he can be a real threat going forward, which is what Liverpool are missing.
A high intensity player, Palestra is also composed on the ball and he could bring those Trent esque long passes, attempting over four long passes per game, which is high for a full-back.
His biggest strength though is his ball carrying and his ability to surge forward.
He's in the 96th percentile for progressive carriers (3.76 per 90 minutes) and for successful take-ons (4.31 per 90 minutes).
So he's a very good ball carrier and that is another aspect where Liverpool are lacking at the moment.
At 20-years-old, he does have a really exciting potential. It feels like he could actually be the long-term solution for that right-back spot.
Palestra isn't that similar to Trent in terms of profile but he does have the potential to be a world-class right-back and therefore he could actually be the player to finally replace him in the team at Anfield.
The club's sporting director Richard Hughes has a lot of connections in Italian football. He signed Federico Chiesa and Giovanni Leoni during his time at the club already.
