Inter Milan are in a race to secure Denzel Dumfries’ future before three of English football’s biggest clubs attempt to trigger his €25 million release clause this summer, with Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City all monitoring the Dutch wing-back closely.
Inter have already begun drafting a renewal offer, understood to be around €5 million per year until 2029, with the crucial condition of removing the release clause entirely.
That clause was inserted into Dumfries‘ previous contract at his own insistence, giving him an exit route should an unmissable opportunity arise.
Since returning from his ankle injury, Dumfries has reminded everyone of his quality.
That form has not gone unnoticed in England.
According to L’Interista, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City all want a player with his profile, and at €25 million, the clause represents outstanding value for clubs of their financial power.
Convincing Dumfries personally would also not be difficult. Premier League contracts tend to be significantly more lucrative than those in Serie A, making the move financially attractive for the player too.
The situation is straightforward.
If Dumfries signs the renewal, the clause disappears and Inter retain their man.
If talks stall or break down, the door opens for the Premier League trio to move, and Inter could lose one of their best players for a fraction of his true market value.
Everything hinges on what happens at the negotiating table in the coming weeks.
