In a statement on Instagram, Salah wrote: “Hello everyone, unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

"I never imagined how deeply this club, this city and the people would become part of my life.

"Liverpool is not just a football club. It is a passion, a history, a spirit. I can’t explain in words.

“We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in my life. I want to thank everyone who has been part of this club throughout my time here.

“I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me support through the best times of my career and you stood by me in my toughest times. I will never forget.

“Leaving is never easy. I will always be one of you and this club will always be home to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”

At the time of the announcement, Liverpool were preparing for two quarter-final ties, against Manchester City and PSG in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively.

However, two cup exits in the space of ten days means Salah will not get the chance to add to his two Premier League titles, as well as Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup medals before bringing down the curtain on a successful spell on Merseyside.

Furthermore, Liverpool's defeat to PSG on Tuesday has provided clarity that Arne Slot's side will not be taking part in this season's Champions League final in Budapest, Hungary on May 30.

As a result, Salah will officially bid farewell following Liverpool’s final game of the season, which is the Premier League clash at home to Brentford on May 24.

The same applies to Andy Robertson, who last week also announced his Liverpool exit after nine successful years.

Liverpool remain in the hunt for a top-five finish to qualify for next season's Champions League, though it could come down to the last game of the campaign, thus adding even more emotion to what will be a huge afternoon at Anfield.
