Several positions need to be addressed in Arne Slot’s side and some high-profile exits are expected following the departures of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.

Richard Hughes and Co will have a shortlist drawn up of potential targets, but the Reds will have to move quickly if they are to land everyone they want and they are already at risk of missing out on one midfielder.

Newcastle closing in on Liverpool target

The news that Anthony Gordon is close to finalising a move to Barcelona is a big blow to Liverpool.

Not only were the Merseyside club linked with a move for the Englishman, Newcastle look ready to reinvest the funds from the deal to secure one of the Reds’ targets.

Lamine Camara is believed to be high on Hughes’ list of priorities this summer, but the Monaco midfielder now finds himself in Newcastle’s crosshairs.

That’s according to a report from the i paper that claims Newcastle have held talks with Monaco over Camara, with the club looking to get their business done early this summer.

The 22-year-old has become a key figure at Monaco, and shares many of the qualities that made Fabinho so good for Liverpool.

As well as both playing for the principality club, the pair both combine strong defensive capabilities with good passing, and Camara could be the key to once again getting the Reds’ midfield firing.

If Newcastle are advancing their talks for Camara then Liverpool will need to act quickly to avoid missing out on the Senegalese midfielder.

The boost of selling Gordon so early in the window will encourage Eddie Howe’s side to take a ruthless approach in the transfer market and the Reds cannot afford to be caught sleeping if they are serious about signing Camara.
