Liverpool are not planning to revisit a deal to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in January.

Guehi underwent a medical with Liverpool on deadline day after a £35m fee was agreed between the two clubs. However, the deal broke down after Palace failed to sign a suitable replacement in the final hours of the window.

The England international has entered the final season of his contract and will be available to sign on a free transfer next summer.

According to journalist Paul Joyce, Liverpool have no plan to sign the 24-year-old for a fee in January. Instead, the Reds will target Guehi on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool could face increased competition for the player as a free agent with Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona reportedly monitoring the situation.

Arne Slot is prepared to continue with his current centre-back options for the 2025/26 season, which include captain Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and summer signing Geovanni Leoni. Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch have also deputised in central defence on occasion.

Liverpool remain keen to bring in a centre-back next summer, amid doubts around Konate’s future. The Frenchman’s deal also expires in the summer and Real Madrid are interested in a deal.
