It looks like big changes are coming to Liverpool’s backline this summer.
Richard Hughes began the process of rejuvenating the sector last year with the signing of Giovanni Leoni.
The Premier League champions added to their defensive ranks in January - adding Mor Talla Ndiaye and set up summer deals for Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Jeremy Jacquet.
But there are signs that the sporting director and Arne Slot - the head coach - won’t stop there.
Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future is under scrutiny as the captain has only got a year left to run on his deal. Joe Gomez is in a similar situation - although it would be no surprise if the Reds listened to bids for the England international this summer.
Ibrahima Konate meanwhile is about to enter the final month of his deal with no breakthrough on the horizon. Liverpool need proven quality in the transfer windows ahead - and their search for a new face could bring them to Stamford Bridge.
Because according to a report in Football Insider the Anfield club are contenders to sign Levi Colwill from Chelsea this summer.
Colwill, 23, has only just returned to the Blues’ first-team ranks following a long-term injury and Liverpool have got a plan to “lure” him away from West London.
“Levi Colwill has emerged as a target for Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window,” the report reads.
“Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the England international, having originally tried to sign him under Jurgen Klopp’s management, and could reignite their interest.”
Chelsea had been hoping that Colwill would strike a new deal - with his current contract expiring in 2029 and the club boasting a one-year option.
But there haven’t been any talks between the player and club as yet - leaving the door slightly ajar for an offer this summer.
“With talks yet to take place, there is a feeling he could be lured away from Stamford Bridge and Liverpool are among those who could make it happen,” the report reads.
Liverpool recruiters have been big fans of Colwill for some time now. He was a regular in the lineup over the previous two campaigns - and his composure at the back has been sorely missed by the Pensioners this term.
