Liverpool head into a crucial FA Cup clash with Manchester City carrying a mixed injury report, though there is growing belief within the camp that key players will be ready. Arne Slot has delivered a measured update, and there is clear encouragement around the squad as preparations ramp up for the next game.
There is a positive tone around the availability of Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa. Both have had recent setbacks during the international break period, yet the signs now point towards involvement at the weekend.
Slot offered a direct update on Salah’s condition, saying: “Close, very close.”
He continued: “Another example of what makes him special because the moment he got injured there was a bit of a situation where they thought, ‘I don’t think he’s available for City.’ But Mo looked at me and said, ‘I think I will be available for City.'”
That mindset matters. Players who take ownership of recovery often return sharper and more determined. Slot reinforced this point, adding: “He just does so much for his body for such a long time that he recovers so fast. So, he will train with the team again tomorrow and if everything works well then he’s available to be with us at City.”
Chiesa is also trending in the right direction. After withdrawing from international duty, he has rejoined training and is expected to be involved. Slot confirmed: “And Federico indeed came back from the national team, where he wasn’t able to play. But he trained with us today, so he will train with us tomorrow again and will be available for the game on the weekend.”

Jeremie Frimpong’s situation requires further assessment. The right sided player was withdrawn during the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Ecuador, prompting initial concern.
Slot clarified the context around that decision, stating: “Jeremie, the national team doctor of the Netherlands tells us that it was precautionary that they took him out. But he will have a scan later today to see.”
That scan will determine his readiness. From a squad management perspective, caution is expected. With the intensity of fixtures, rushing players back rarely pays off, especially in high level contests like this one.
While there is good news elsewhere, Alisson Becker remains unavailable. His absence continues to be felt, particularly given his influence in big matches.
Slot kept his update brief but clear: “Alisson will be out for a bit longer.”
That places responsibility on the defensive unit to stay compact and disciplined. Against a side like Manchester City, organisation without the first choice goalkeeper becomes even more critical.
This injury report gives Liverpool a stronger platform heading into the next game. The potential return of key attackers provides a lift, both tactically and mentally.
Slot now has options, and that changes how Liverpool approach this tie. Availability drives confidence, and confidence drives performance. With Salah and Chiesa close, and others being monitored, Liverpool look better equipped for what lies ahead.
