Liverpool remain in pole position to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi (25) on a free transfer or for a nominal fee in the winter window, according to a report from Sacha Tavolieri. The Premier League champions tried to sign the England international defender during the summer transfer window, but the deal collapsed at the final moment following a change of heart from the Selhurst Park outfit.

Despite rumoured interest from other clubs, Crystal Palace are convinced that Anfield remains the most likely destination for the former Chelsea defender. Guehi’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January. Palace are considering a quick sale in the winter window to avoid losing the 25-year-old on a free transfer.

Liverpool facing competition from Bayern for Guehi

The Reds are not the only club showing an interest in signing the English defender. Bayern Munich also hold an interest in the Crystal Palace centre back. However, the Bundesliga champions are less active in their interest, and a move in the winter transfer window could see the Premier League club steal a march in the race for his signature.
