Liverpool sack Arne Slot after fifth-place finish as Leeds twice hold Reds | OneFootball

Liverpool have sacked head coach Arne Slot after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign in which newly promoted Leeds United twice took points off them.

The defending champions slipped to fifth, 25 points behind winners Arsenal, though they still qualified for the Champions League. The club said in a statement that Slot leaves with immediate effect, described the decision as difficult, stressed a change of direction is needed and confirmed a search for his successor is under way.

Leeds drew 3-3 with Liverpool in December, then earned a 0-0 at Anfield on New Year’s Day.

Slot arrived in June 2024 and won Liverpool’s 20th league title in his first season, collected the LMA Manager of the Year award and reached the Carabao Cup final and Champions League last 16.

This season he secured Champions League qualification again and guided the team to the quarter-finals.
