For many years after he left the club, Liverpool had been looking for their next Steven Gerrard, but the search is over.

The former Reds captain was an incredible footballer. Gerrard could just do anything on the football pitch. He could score, he could tackle, he could hit a pass from 60-70 yards and he could score from 30-40 yards out.

There will never be anyone like him. No one will have the same passion and love for the club that he did. No one will ever be such a one-man show at Anfield.

In his prime, Gerrard carried the team on his back. He defined what carrying a side on your back actually truly meant. Without him, there's no Istanbul, there's no FA Cup glory in 2006 and so many other countless memories.

When he left and as he got older and the need for a new Gerrard to emerge arose, it felt unfair to even expect someone to come along like him.

Gerrard is one of a kind.

But then out of nowhere, a man has come along who seems to have been ordained to follow in his footsteps.

When Dominik Szoboszlai got a tattoo with a quote attributed to Gerrard on his forearm as a teenager even he couldn't envision that one day he would wear the Liverpool shirt on his back. Not only that but he would wear the shirt with Gerrard's famous no.8 on his back.

But life works in mysterious ways and Szoboszlai ended up signing for the club for just £60m from RB Leipzig.

In his first two seasons he has been an important part of the team. But this season he has taken his performances to another level.

This season, he's showing potential that he could become as good of a player for the club as Gerrard, and even a future captain.

Szoboszlai has sometimes carried the team on his back. He's making important contributions at either end of the pitch, while playing everywhere.

From right-back to midfield and even further forward. He's being trusted to play a number of different roles and only the very best players are capable of that.

The numbers reflect this as well.

So far this season, Szoboszlai ranks no.1 for Liverpool in the following metrics:

- Most assists (4)

- Most progressive carries (44)

- Most progressive passes (104)

- Most long passes completed (111)

- Most shot-creating actions (64)

- Most goal-creating actions (9)

- Most tackles won (21)

- Most tackles and interceptions (36)

- Most recoveries (85)

This is an incredible list and it just goes to show how important he has been. Gerrard in his prime was similar in the intensity that he played with as well.

The way he plays football is also very Gerrard esque. From the energy to the way he can strike the ball, either to find a teammate or cause problems to the opposition's goalkeeper.

At last, the next Gerrard is finally here, and he comes with a beard and long black locks.
