Liverpool star Andy Robertson has this week provided an insight into his decision to knock back a transfer approach on the part of Atlético Madrid this summer.
Defender Robertson was for his part heavily linked with a move to Spain’s capital ahead of the new campaign.
This came amid a search for reinforcements at left-back on the part of Diego Simeone and co.
The Scot, relegated to 2nd choice at Anfield following the arrival of Milos Kerkez, was in turn earmarked as the ideal profile of player.
Robertson himself, however, ultimately made the call to turn Atlético down.
As much culminated in the Rojiblancos shifting focus to Atalanta talent Matteo Ruggeri.
And as alluded to above, late this week, Robertson has opened up on the reasons behind his call to stay put in Liverpool.
As per Mundo Deportivo, the 31-year-old explained:
“That was the first summer I had to think about my future. I’ve always been very clear about where I’m going to be and what my position is. So I’ve had to consider everything.
“In the end, we came to the conclusion that we were staying with Liverpool. We committed to it, and it’s a decision I don’t regret.”
