Federico Chiesa has been left out of Liverpool’s squad to face Galatasaray in the Champions League.
The Italy international, who scored his second Premier League goal of the season on Saturday, trained as normal on Monday and had been added to Liverpool’s Champions League squad last week following Giovanni Leoni’s injury.
Chiesa had originally been omitted from the Champions League squad but was added following news of Leoni’s long-term absence.
His goal against Crystal Palace appeared to have come at a significant time for a player who has struggled for rhythm and minutes since joining Liverpool, raising hopes that he might feature in Europe.
However, when Liverpool named their 21-man travelling squad on Monday afternoon, Chiesa was not included.
The 27-year-old has endured a stop-start campaign so far, limited to just 104 Premier League minutes across six appearances prior to his goal against Palace.
Jayden Danns will also be absent after picking up an injury while playing for the U21s over the weekend. The teenager, who was on the bench for the last Champions League outing against Atletico Madrid, will not be involved in Istanbul.
Liverpool’s squad for the Galatasaray trip is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Mamardashvili, Woodman
Defenders: Van Dijk, Konate, Gomez, Bradley, Kerkez, Robertson, Frimpong
Midfielders: Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Mac Allister, Jones, Endo
Forwards: Salah, Isak, Ekitike, Gakpo, Ngumoha
