Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones will miss Sunday’s clash with Burnley, boss Arne Slot has confirmed.

The 24-year-old picked up an injury in the win over Arsenal last time out and Slot has revealed he will not be available this weekend.

“Curtis Jones, of course, I don’t know if you knew but he got injured in the last game so he will not be available for the game against Burnley but I think the rest of them all came back without a problem,” he said.

Meanwhile, Slot also says he will be very cautious with Liverpool’s new record signing Alexander Isak.

But he played his first minutes of the season for his country over the international break, having not played any club football so far this campaign.

And Slot says it will be a gradual process to build up his fitness.

“The Swedish manager Jon Dahl Tomasson deserves a big, big, big compliment because he gets one of, if not maybe the best striker in the world in and needs to play two very important games for his country but understands that if he would play him twice for 90 minutes then probably the player would have been injured for multiple weeks,” Slot said.

“We will treat Alex the same as they did so don’t expect him to be, every single game, 90 minutes on the pitch. That’s definitely not going to happen in the upcoming weeks.

“He missed a proper pre-season, I think he missed three or four months of team sessions and so now we have to build him up gradually with us playing so many games with hardly any training time.”

Jeremie Frimpong, meanwhile, has returned to training following his injury.
