Over the past few days, rumours about Real Madrid moving for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate this summer itself have been gaining weight.
The Frenchman is a player that Los Blancos have been monitoring, but with the idea of signing him in 2026, when his contract at Anfield expires.
However, concerns over the current centre-back roster, coupled with Liverpool’s reluctance to see another ‘Trent Alexander-Arnold case’ unfold have sparked rumours of a potential transfer this year itself.
Now, according to MARCA, Ibrahima Konate has already informed the Liverpool leadership that he is open to a departure this summer, on the condition that the destination is Real Madrid.
The French centre-back understands Liverpool’s need to secure a transfer fee and is aware of the unease among the club’s decision-makers about his situation.
There is no conflict between the two parties, but, at the same time, Liverpool will not make his exit easy. At Anfield, following two rejections from the player regarding renewal talks, there is a growing belief that Real Madrid have already made their move.

Konate has not applied pressure, but has made it clear, both internally at Liverpool and to Real Madrid, that his decision is not financially motivated. He is prepared to wait, rejecting renewal offers because he wants to wear the white shirt of Madrid.
Given this scenario, it is Liverpool who have begun to act by scouring for potential reinforcements, further hinting that a sale could be on the cards.
At Real Madrid, doubts about the central defence have only grown after the FIFA Club World Cup. While Dean Huijsen has impressed since joining this summer, injuries and critical errors from those expected to anchor the backline have raised serious concerns.
Officially, the club denies that any immediate moves are being made, as the Konate operation had originally been planned for next summer. However, the context has changed.
Manager Xabi Alonso wants reinforcements in that area. As such, a move for Konate could now be in the works, with the defender also open to the transfer this summer.
