A shocking transfer plotline emerged on Friday.

It was claimed by Florian Plettenberg that Rio Ngumoha had reached a “verbal agreement” to join Bayern Munich. Although no club-to-club talks had taken place between the Bavarians and Liverpool the 17-year-old winger had given his consent to a deal.

The report was backed up by David Ornstein with the Athletic transfer expert claiming that FC Hollywood were still hopeful of concluding a deal.

Ngumoha had been earmarked as an ideal signing by Vincent Kompany with Bayern laying out their ideal career path for the left winger.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Ngumoha and right now Liverpool are somewhat vulnerable to approaches.

Liverpool to offer new contract to Rio Ngumoha

The former Chelsea youth inked his first-ever professional deal upon turning 17 last August. Given his age the teen sensation was only entitled to sign a three-year deal.

The end date for that contract is rapidly approaching with Ngumoha now having only two years on his deal. If it runs down much further then Liverpool may have to face the unwelcome prospect of losing him on a free in 2028.

Maybe the Bayern approach will be a wakeup call for Richard Hughes - with a report in TEAMtalk now claiming that a new contract is being lined up for the England youth forward.

Rio is going to shine next season

“Liverpool fully expect to offer Ngumoha a new long-term contract in the coming months, with improved terms and a significant wage increase reflecting his growing importance within the club’s plans,” the report reads.

Ngumoha won’t be eligible to sign this long-term deal until he turns 18 but it will be a weight off Liverpool minds if the club get him to commit. It’s no secret how highly Ngumoha is rated around Anfield - even if he struggled for consistent starts under Arne Slot.

Perhaps some frustration crept in for Rio - encouraging him to look elsewhere for first-team opportunities.

With Slot out of the way however - and - we could see Ngumoha emerge as a surefire starter next season.
