According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are considering a summer swap with Al-Hilal that could see Mohamed Salah depart and Marcos Leonardo arrive.
Liverpool have already started work on identifying Salah’s replacement, with the forward having announced his intention to leave at the end of the season.
This follows a difficult campaign under Arne Slot, in which Salah has 10 goals and nine assists from 35 matches, compared with 34 goals and 23 assists last season when Liverpool won the Premier League title.
Liverpool view the Brazilian striker Leonardo as a strategic option thanks to his versatility, able to play centre-forward, wide or as a false nine linking midfield and attack.
After a testing stint at Benfica, the Brazilian rebuilt his form in Saudi Arabia and is keen to return to Europe.
Interest has strengthened as a move for primary target Michael Olise appears to have fallen through.
Al-Hilal have set a £50 million price for Leonardo and are not under financial pressure to sell, although the player’s desire to return could be decisive.
With Saudi clubs interested in Salah, Liverpool could look to use that at the negotiating table, potentially structuring a swap that sends Salah to Al-Hilal and brings Leonardo to Anfield, with finances settled within the deal.
Such an agreement would be complex, yet remains possible and could meet the ambitions of all parties given Liverpool’s need to refresh their attack.
