Liverpool strengthened their attack with the signings of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike last summer.
Ekitike is the only one of that trio to hit the ground running, but they are not expected to sign another forward in the winter transfer window.
However, they are interested in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and could move for him at the end of the season.
Liverpool will hold preliminary talks with Bournemouth over a potential deal for the Ghana international this weekend, according to Reds insider DaveOCKOP.
The Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes is a massive admirer of Semenyo. Hughes played a key role in the forward’s move to Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023.
The Cherries reportedly want £75 million for their star forward, potentially making him their most expensive sale ever, overtaking Dominic Solanke’s £65m move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024.
They fended off interest from Spurs and Manchester United last summer to keep Semenyo and subsequently extended his contract until 2030.
The 25-year-old is one of the Premier League’s most in-form players, bagging six goals and three assists in 11 games.
Bournemouth are aware that they are unlikely to keep Semenyo if big clubs come calling.
The club’s general manager, Tim Bezbatchenko, recently made this admission in an interview with the Business of Sports podcast.
Liverpool will face competition for the signing of the Ghanaian, with Manchester City and Tottenham also reportedly monitoring his situation.
Semenyo would be a perfect replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is no longer the force of old.
