Liverpool are targeting a successor for Mohamed Salah who looks like Salah 2.0. Can the Reds strike a deal?

With talk that Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool next year, the Reds are reportedly on the hunt for a successor. That only makes sense, after all - the Egyptian King won't be around forever regardless.

A departure next year is comfortably on the cards and it would see Liverpool try to replace the irreplaceable. An impossible task, in other words.

One player they're reportedly looking at is AC Milan's Christian Pulisic. It's a surprising one, given Pulisic didn't live up to the billing at Chelsea and was shipped out a year ago to Italy.

But while that isn't the greatest sign of a top-class player - it's also exactly what happened to Salah.

Former Coventry Man Could Make English Return

Despite a month passing since the deadline of the summer window, transfer links continue to surface involving Liverpool.

CaughtOffside report suggests Darwin Nunez still has the backing of new manager Arne Slot, but it’s felt that the club could be open to replacing him at the end of this season if he doesn’t show significant improvement on a fairly inconsistent first two campaigns at Anfield.

The report adds that it looks as though Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokeres would be the priority for the Reds if they do decide to offload the Uruguayan, with a number of other top European clubs also monitoring the in-form Sweden international.

Saudi PIF Eye Salah on Pre-Contract

Death, taxes and Mo Salah scoring for Liverpool.

Since 2017-18 it’s become a sight as expected as a full Kop or Liverpool in a Champions League final. Every time Mo Salah has contributed to a goal this season - and, naturally, it has happened many times - there is an air of knowing what you’re losing in real time. Reds would be forgiven if Salah making it 2-1 from the penalty spot made them hark back to the dying days of a once-loved relationship, trying to savour the moment and appreciate getting to experience it whilst silently begging them not to go.

And the links to Saudi Arabia, whilst well-established, just will not go away. CaughtOffside are now reporting that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) - the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia that owns high-spending clubs Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr - is shifting its strategy to secure a pre-contract with the Egyptian by January or February 2025. The outlet are also reporting that the PIF are preparing a 2+1-year contract offer with, expectedly, a monumental salary. This ties in to what pundit Gabby Agbonlahor reported on talkSPORT earlier in the week.

Even More Potential Salah Replacements - Including Euros Winner

Liverpool currently sit at the top of the Premier League but a grey cloud remains lingering above Anfield.

The uncertainty regarding the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold remains.

According to a CaughtOffside report, Liverpool are also looking at Athletic Bilbao and Spain star Nico Williams and Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane, who is out of contract at the Allianz Arena next summer.

Williams proved instrumental in Spain’s Euro2024 triumphs alongside fellow winger Lamine Yamal. However, the Spaniard predominantly operates on the left side of a front three, casting doubt over whether he is a suitable replacement for Salah.

As for Sane, the German has impressed at Bayern since departing Manchester City in 2020.
